A group of 6-8th graders and their teachers from Bloordale Middle School, Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada, recently visited Nortel's corporate campus in Toronto to learn about multimedia projects to promote learning in new ways and involve them with engaging assignments. This is the first step in a year-long Nortel LearniT Ambassador Outreach. This is the first Nortel LearniT initiative for the Toronto Womens' Business Council's Community Outreach team headed by Payal Puri and Nancy Quinn. The new relationship between Nortel and Bloordale Middle School was formed after consultation with the Toronto District School Board. |
Nortel LearniT 21st century e-Learning initiative Nortel LearniT ambassadors, in a group effort, will work with the students in teams throughout the school year to capture events within the school. The students will post monthly highlights. At the end of the year they will create a digital yearbook and videos to give to the elementary feeder schools for the incoming grade 5 students to see what life will be like when they get to middle school. Visits to Nortel facilities will be arranged so students and staff get a view of the environment the volunteers work in and the resources available to them such as state-of-the-art presentation rooms and broadcast-quality multimedia studios. |
