Introduction
This lesson is designed to allow students to discover 1 of the body systems with their group. They will become the expert of the body system and create a presentation from their research to inform their peers of this body system.Prerequisite Experience
Students should have word processing skills, research skills, including evaluating the validity of a website. They should have the ability to use keynote and the features within keynote or garageband to add voice and music. Students will need to use Imovie to create a digital presentation to share with the class via youtube.Teacher Prep Time
2 hour, maybe more if you don’t know how to use the above pieces of technonolgyTeacher should coordinate with Library and technology staff to create project pages and links for project information. Meet with school technology personal for any help with technology questions and make sure the images are correct. Have students view video feed to learn how to create their pages, youtube.com or http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/#keynote, http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie, andhttp://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#garageband. Use your youtube account or create a youtube account to store and view all the class projects using a private setting.Project
Students will develop an integrated keynote and Imovie that features their body system research to their peers
Assessment/Grading
Evaluation RubricTime Management Tips
Students can work together on their research by dividing the research into small chunksStudents can divide work to create the product (keynote and Imovie)Have students pick groups, topics, and work prior to beginning projectProvide all materials in a group folder clearly labeled (could create a moodle to distribute the information)Collect group folder with all materials after each class Have students create individual diigo.com accounts and then create a group. This site will allow students to bookmark sites and use this site to collaborate and “take notes” on their research.Lesson Plan Details
Engage
Have you ever wondered how your body really works? Have you ever wondered why your body can move in a specific direction or why you get a cramp when you exercise? Do you know how the various systems in your body work individually and together to make you move? Your challenge is to discover how a specific body system works, how it works with other systems, what the system consists of (cells, organs, etc), what the system looks like (graphics) and what are the interesting facts about this system (like how many feet of small intestine is located inside of the body)You and your group need to research your body system. You should consider the following:What does body system look like?
What is the body system’s job or role in the body?
How does this body system work?
What does the body system consist of?
Are there specific body systems that the system works closely to insure the success of the body?
What are some common diseases or injuries that occur within the system?
What effects can drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or diet have on this body system?
What are the interesting facts about this body system?
Explore
You will need Internet access that can access the Library Class Projects pages for the suggested links. You will also need the knowledge of Keynote, Imovie, and garageband. You might want to use a flip camara and you will need to plan ahead to have access if you don’t have one. You and your group should-Make a plan for research (provide group work distribution chart)-Divide up your work-Keep track of all sources used to create your work cited page -Use diigo.com to collaborate with your group. This site will allow you to store all your websites, bookmark and tag. It will allow you to highlight and put stick notes on the items. This is a great place to use so you and your won’t lose your work.-Make a plan for how to create your presentation -Use story boardFor information concerning body systems:

Explain
Summarize your findings and organize your information prior to beginning your presentation creation by creating a storyboard. Hand the summary/storyboard into your teacher for approval. You should now be able to answer the following:1) What does body system look like?
2) What is the body system’s job or role in the body?
3) How does this body system work?
4) What does the body system consist of?
5) Are there specific body systems that the system works closely to insure the success of the body?
6) What are some common diseases or injuries with this system?
7) What effects can drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or diet have on this body system?
8) What are the interesting facts about this body system?
Next Step: Using your storyboard/summary create your presentation using keynote and Imovie.Elaborate
Create the Keynote and Imovie to show your groups understanding of the chosen body system. Use interactive features that will draw your peers into your presentation so they can become an expert on your body system.

Extend
Once students have become the expert on their body system, they can build on this knowledge by specifically using the question What are some common diseases and injuries with this body system. During the next Health unit students can explore the disease or diseases associated with this particular body system. Students can continue to learn about the specific body system as well as the history of the disease, causes, signs and symptoms and progression of the disease. Students can tweak their orginal presentation and add information about the specific disease.
