When Nortel LearniT Ambassadors hosted a "Lunch & Learn" at a local Hong Kong restaurant the focus was on food that kids like and some fun explorations into sharing their digital imaging knowledge in a "get-to-know-a-digital-camera" session.
To make the event work, the Nortel Hong Kong Staff club recruited a dedicated team of ambassadors to oversee and host the party. The more than 50 children attending are currently sheltered, cared for, and educated through the services of a local charity organization. The ambassadors, whose common (and very successful!) objective was to put a smile on the childrens' faces, were drawn from many functions within Nortel, including Finance, HR, Facilities, Sales, Marketing and Corporate Communication.
 | In the training using Nortel LearniT camera kit, the ambassadors explained digital cameras, how to use them, and how you can use a digital camera for learning fun. See the Nortel LearniT Mobile Camera Toolkit. The children were very excited as it was the first time for most of them to use digital cameras, especially those in the age 6-10 year old group. The ambassadors enjoyed the Lunch & Learn, too, and have another the Digital Imaging Course planned for the children's summer holiday.

Resourcefully funded by money raised at a 2008 "garage sale" of old Nortel-branded souvenirs, the ambassadors were able to donate candy and gift packs for all as well as prizes for children who came up with creative ideas for using digital imaging.
Prize-winning ideas were
- use digital pictures to present project ideas to get higher marks on homework
- produce short films and upload on YouTube
- organize a digital picture competition at school
- take digital pictures as research materials, e.g., plant species.
